LEAD PRAISE AND WORSHIP WELL

So far, we have covered a lot of topics on exhortation. However, exhortations are just a tiny fraction of praise and worship. Praise and worship can be this humongous thing that can be daunting to those who are just getting started. Here are some basics on how to lead praise and worship well.

LET GOD INCREASE

Leading praise and worship is hard because of our human condition. We have a lot faults and flaws. We have a lot of baggage. If we’re not careful, we might carry that with us during praise and worship. So, leave the baggage behind. It has to be more about Jesus. It has to be more about God. Remember John the Baptist when he said, “He must increase; I must decrease.” John 3:30

JOIN THE REHEARSALS

A lead worshiper is part of a worship team, which is a skill based ministry. So, rehearsals are essential! So, please, don’t be late. Don’t be absent. Don’t join the rehearsals unprepared. Always remember that a lead worshiper is someone who leads by example. The worship team will follow the standards set by the lead worshiper. So, whatever happens in the rehearsals could manifests in the praise and worship. So, you got to lead your ministry well so that you can lead the congregation well.

MASTER THE LINEUP

Hey, you’re the lead worshiper! So, you must know the songs and the sequence like the back of your hand. When you attain mastery with the lineup, then you can be more spontaneous with your exhortations. More importantly, you are more responsive to the leading of the Holy Spirit, which translates to better worship leading.

SHOW THEM HOW IT’S DONE

So, you delivered a solid exhortation, you gave a clear call-to-action but you notice confused looks in the congregation. They’re clueless! They don’t know what to do! Show them how to do it! Friend, it’s not enough to say, “Lift your hands!” You also got to lift your hands! It’s not enough to exhort, “Leap for joy!” You gotta be jumping as well! If you want them to shout, you should shout too! If you want them to sing, then you better singing too!

ENJOY YOURSELF

Friend, ultimately praise and worship is a joyful activity. Of course it is! You’re hanging out with the Lord! Praise and worship is actually a glimpse of the eternal worship. So, check yourself. Are you projecting joy or sorrow? Love or hate? Hope or hopelessness? Remember friend you are also proclaiming the Good News.
