What would you do if you started to see the extraordinary?

 

This is what happened to Peter, James, and John during the Transfiguration.

 

Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared and began talking with Jesus.
Matthew 17:3

 

This was wild! I can imagine the faces of Peter, James, and John. Their jaws must have dropped when they saw Moses the greatest law giver and Elijah the greatest prophet. This was Peter’s confirmation that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the Living God!

 

Peter exclaimed, “Lord, it’s wonderful for us to be here! If you want, I’ll make three shelters as memorials—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
Matthew 17:4

 

In the Gospels according Mark and Luke, they said that Peter had no idea what he was talking. He was babbling at this point because of the shock of what he was seeing.

 

But even as he spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my dearly loved son, who brings me great joy. Listen to him.”
Matthew 17:5

 

The cloud is actually a symbol of God’s presence. If you combine this with the light, the cloud, the voice, Moses, and Elijah, these are glimpses of the supernatural. God pulled the curtain and showed the invisible. He showed the spiritual realm and the reaction was expected.

 

The disciples were terrified and fell face down on the ground.
Then Jesus came over and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.”
And when they looked up, Moses and Elijah were gone, and they saw only Jesus.
Matthew 17:6-8

 

After the spectacular supernatural show, all that was left was a middle aged Jewish carpenter in a small barrio called Nazareth. No more magical cloud. No Moses. No Elijah. Just ordinary Jesus. What’s the lesson here?

 

BEHIND THE MUNDANE IS THE MIRACULOUS

 

What does this mean? It means that every time you wash the dishes, every time you fix your bed, every time you play with your kids, spend quality time with your parents, do your daily grind, and go through the daily motions, God is present. God is there. So, when you have your prayer time, your scripture, your time with the Lord, you are not just surrounded by the same wall, the same ceiling, and the same furniture. No! You are also surrounded by angels and saints and God Himself.

 

GOD IS IN THE ORDINARY
