How do you fight like Jesus?
What are you fighting for? Who are you fighting for? How do you win these battles? Put your fists down and learn how to fight like Jesus!
“But so that we may not cause offense, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.”
Matthew 17:27
Zero in on Jesus’ line. “But so that we may not cause offense…” Isn’t this strange? At this point of his ministry, Jesus has offended a lot Sadducees and Pharisees. He even predicted his death at their hands. Now, why would Jesus suddenly care about not offending people?
JESUS CHOSE HIS BATTLES WELL
This is the heart of Jesus. He did not fight for his own privilege. Jesus fought and gave his life for the powerless.
So with regards to taxes, while he didn’t have to pay them, he paid them for the sake of everyone else so that He may not cause offense.
This is opposite to us, right? We pick a fight with those who step on our time, our space, and our dignity. We pick a fight with the Grab delivery guy for taking so long in delivering our food. (Give that person one star!) We pick a fight with that dude in front of us in the one basket express counter in the grocery even though his got two carts! (Hey! How many villages are you feeding?” We pick a fight with anyone who would step on our privilege. Just think how many times have you lost a family member or a friend because your pride got hurt? Be like Jesus.
CHOOSE YOUR BATTLES WELL
How did Jesus do it? How could he have given up his personal rights and privileges for others? Here is the key. Jesus is secure with His identity.
In the Gospels according Mark and Luke, they said that Peter had no idea what he was talking. He was babbling at this point because of the shock of what he was seeing.
HE KNOWS WHATEVER IS TAKEN FROM HIM, GOD WILL FULLY REPAY.
This is not exclusive to Jesus. It’s the same for you too! You are a child of God.
WHATEVER IS TAKEN FROM YOU, GOD WILL FULLY REPAY.
Whatever you are going through, Continue to entrust to Him your needs. When you encounter difficulty, do not fight others for your needs. Continue to have faith and await God’s provision.
YOU ARE GOD’S FAMILY
